![]() ![]() Significant flooding events had previously occurred in Auckland in August 2021 and March 2022. Tar seals and concrete surfaces on roads, carparks, and buildings also prevent rainwater from dispersing into the ground, causing water to pool up and surfaces to flood during heavy rain events. Īccording to Victoria University of Wellington climate scientist James Renwick and University of Auckland urban planning lecturer Timothy Welch, Auckland, along with many other areas in the country, experiences ageing stormwater infrastructure systems which are unable to cope with population growth and the impact of climate change. Before the events of 27 January, there was already sentiment brewing among some in the country that the summer of 2022–23 was the country's "worst summer ever". Heavy rain plagued the northern and eastern areas of the country through most of January, with flooding events shortly after New Year, and Cyclone Hale impacting the country on 10 and 11 January. In January 2023, Auckland and the upper North Island experienced relentless maritime heatwave conditions caused by the annual La Niña cycle and exacerbated by climate change. Minister of Finance Grant Robertson stated at the time that the event was New Zealand's costliest non-earthquake event ever, although this record was broken only two weeks later when Cyclone Gabrielle impacted the country. Over the following days other areas of the upper North Island were impacted. The event is considered to be the worst floods in Auckland's modern history. NIWA reported that an entire summer's worth of rain fell within one day in what it described as a 1-in-200-year event. Flooding was widespread across the city, with West Auckland and North Shore being the worst affected areas. Severe flash flooding occurred across Auckland from around 5:00 pm on 27 January local time, after heavy rain in the afternoon. The update for Risk of Rain 2 is out now for Switch, and while it took over 3 months for the update to come out, the update for Switch brought bug fixes for all console versions of Risk of Rain 2, making the wait worth it for players of the game.Map of the North Island, where the floods occurredĢ7 January 2023 ( ) – 2 February 2023 ( ) (7 days) īeginning on Friday, 27 January 2023, regions across the upper North Island of New Zealand experienced widespread catastrophic floods caused by heavy rainfall, with Auckland being the most significantly affected as the Auckland Anniversary holiday weekend began. The update also brings the Stadia exclusive Sundered Grove to the rest of the ports of the game, as well as new bosses, like the Grandparent from Risk of Rain 1, and new abilities for the Captain, Mul-T, and the Loader. The level has also been revamped to be more inside the design philosophy of the other levels of the game. Instead of running down a long corridor and completing the boss to run back, the player has to complete some extra challenges. As well as a revamped version of the Moon, where the final boss lays. The update contains a whole new survivor, The Bandit, who makes his return from Risk of Rain 1. The delay comes from the fact that the game is now going to launch with all the bug fixes that have been released on console today as well. The reason behind this delay becomes clearer, however, as the game was experiencing multiple bugs on the console ports with the release of the anniversary update for Risk of Rain 2. However, the Anniversary update was pushed back by 6 months. Seeing that during early access, the game was getting updates on console 3 months after PC. Reasons as to why this update was held off for switch could come down to console priority, although the game is being published by Gearbox, the game is still being developed by the indie team at Hopoo Games. For some reason, this update was held off until today for the Nintendo Switch. ![]() The game received an anniversary update on Console and PC on March 25 th, which included a handful of content for the players to try out. The game ran on Early Access and was launched on Console and PC. ![]() ![]() This change didn’t dissuade fans from checking the game out, however, and Risk of Rain 2 was eventually picked up to be published by Gearbox to be put on consoles. The second game found itself transitioning to 3D, with the game becoming a 3 rd person shooter, rather than the 2D platformer it was prior. However, the original game started out as a 2d side scroller, and would then become more with the invention of its sequel, Risk of Rain 2. The game was originally a Kickstarter title, and after its funding, found it’s cult following, brewing a community who enjoyed the sci-fi roguelike. ![]()
